Empowering Students to Explore Their Future and Make it More Equitable

Wednesday, Sep 25 11:15 AM - 12:00 PM Signature Room

What did you want to be when you were in high school? What if you had the opportunity to explore rewarding careers that you hadn’t heard about before? How might that have affected your life’s trajectory? That’s the opportunity we’re providing every day to high school students across the country – the knowledge and resources to inspire students to pursue a career and future that matches up with their goals and dreams.

If you’re wondering – “What does that look like?” “How do you reach students who would benefit most?” and “What kind of impact can you actually make?” – then this is the right session for you.

Accounting is important work that drives investor confidence in investment decisions, fueling our capital markets and the economy. In these times of economic uncertainty, accounting also remains a stable and lucrative career choice. Despite this, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the number of graduates with accounting degrees has decreased by 16% since 2019 and 76.3 percent of the total employed accountants and auditors in the U.S. are white. The Center for Audit Quality (CAQ) and EVERFI have partnered together on an accounting education initiative for high school students. This innovative curriculum exposes students to careers in accounting, with a goal to attract greater diversity and representation within the profession.

In this multimedia- and discussion-based session, we will explore how EVERFI and CAQ worked together to design this engaging course and the in-school “Accounting for Your Future” signature events that bring what they learned to life and help create a lasting impact for students.

Learnings shared will be applicable to all CSR professionals who are exploring how they can connect with schools and students in innovative and engaging ways and help drive a more equitable future through career-related and other foundational opportunities for students.
