Bio

Marshall Ginn is an accomplished nonprofit leader, consultant, trainer, and volunteer with more than 30 years of experience working with regional and national nonprofits, philanthropic organizations and professional associations.  He is a recognized advocate for advancing excellence in nonprofit management and promoting effective philanthropy.

For 20 years, Marshall managed Capital Development Strategies LLC, a consulting firm whose diverse clients included human service nonprofits, community development programs, arts organizations, and association foundations.  In 2022, he established Capital Philanthropy, a consulting practice dedicated to fostering high-impact, thoughtful, and equitable philanthropy. For the past several years Marshall has provided counsel to a 55-year-old family foundation based in Northern Viriginia. He is an Associate Member of the National Network of Consultants to Grantmakers for which he also serves as Resource Development Counsel.

From 2011-2016 Marshall served as chair of the selection committee for the Center for Nonprofit Advancement’s AIM for Excellence Award Competition (formerly known as The Washington Post Award for Excellence in Nonprofit Management.)   He is  an application reviewer for Spur Local (formerly the Catalogue for Philanthropy of Greater Washington,) a proposal reviewer for the Unfunded List, and a grants panelist for the New Jersey State Council for the Arts.

Marshall has made numerous presentations to national audiences including the Exponent Philanthropy national conference, Blackbaud Grantmaking's Thought Leader webinar series, Compass ProBono's Sorking Summit, and the BoardSource Leadership Forum.
