Developing a Comprehensive Campaign Rooted in Strategy
This session proposes to share Mulgrave School’s experience in developing the Cascade Campaign—a comprehensive, multi-pillar fundraising campaign intentionally built from the school’s Strategic Direction 2025+. Designed as a practical and reflective presentation, the session will explore how strategic clarity can serve as the foundation for ambitious, credible, and values-aligned philanthropy.
Attendees will gain insight into how Mulgrave translated long-term strategic priorities into a compelling campaign framework focused on three interconnected investment areas: teacher housing to support recruitment, retention, and wellbeing; endowment growth to ensure long-term financial sustainability and access; and a transformative capital project centred on the creation of a STEM Centre and a Centre for Teaching Excellence, Research, and Practice. The presentation will illustrate how grounding these priorities in a single strategic narrative allowed the campaign to move beyond discrete funding needs toward a cohesive case for institutional impact.
The session will highlight key lessons learned, including aligning leadership, governance, and advancement around a shared strategic language; balancing aspiration with institutional readiness; and reframing donor engagement around partnership and long-term value rather than transactional giving. Practical examples will demonstrate how strategic planning can be effectively translated into donor-centred outcomes that resonate across a school community.
Participants will leave with tangible takeaways for developing comprehensive campaigns rooted in strategy—strengthening credibility, building donor confidence, and positioning their institutions for sustainable growth in an increasingly complex philanthropic landscape.
