Making Blackbaud Luminate Online® Sing: Practical Innovation, Smart Tweaks, and a Peer Model That Scales

In-Person

This dynamic session led by Karen Sievewright (hjc) and Charles Lehosit (RKD Group), joined by Sarah Trudeau of the Wisconsin Humane Jennifer Grantham from the San Diego Humane Society, focuses on how to unlock more performance from Luminate Online without rebuilding your tech stack. This session moves beyond theory into field-tested tactics that increase response, average gift, and lifetime value.

We will begin with high-impact, low-cost optimizations that many organizations overlook. This includes dynamic donation forms that adjust arrays and messaging based on audience source, smarter defaulting for monthly giving, conditional logic to reflect donor motivation, and mobile-first simplification. We will review real testing insights, including examples where removing dollar signs increased both response and average gift, and demonstrate how small UX adjustments, confirmation-page upgrades, and triggered stewardship journeys can lift performance without major development expense. The emphasis is on configuration, testing discipline, and governance rather than replacement.

The session then shifts to how organizations build the internal and external capacity required to make these improvements stick. We will outline a practical ownership model for Luminate Online, cross-functional micro-squads that drive 90-day sprints, and how to align platform optimization with a balanced scorecard. Panelists will share what worked, what stalled, and how they moved from isolated fixes to systematic improvement. The focus will be on cost-effective deployment and partnership models that allow organizations to iterate quickly while maintaining control.

We will conclude by unveiling the first-of-its-kind Luminate Online “therapy group” model: a structured, hyper-vertical peer lab where 10 humane-related organizations meet monthly to share builds, fixes, test results, and creative hacks. Supported by a shared workspace and rotating “hot seat” organizations, this model creates a collective R&D engine that reduces duplication, increases speed, and helps the platform continuously evolve. Attendees will leave with a practical framework for immediate optimization and a replicable model for sustained innovation, adaptable to any vertical.
