Speaker Bio

KC Ortiz, a native Washingtonian, is the Director of Advancement Services with the Children's Defense Fund (CDF) and has worked for legacy national nonprofits for over thirty years.  KC holds a bachelor's degree in Computer Information Systems with a focus in databases.  He blends his technical expertise and interpersonal skills to support leadership and staff, connect and engage with cross-functional teams, and help guide informed and data-driven decisions.  To add, KC is a former Marine, portrait/scenic artist and animal lover.

At the end of 2020, CDF welcomed a new President & CEO. As a result, the organization has undergone robust reorganization, reimagining, and reinvigoration.  In June 2021, KC was promoted to his current position and simultaneously asked to serve as the Interim Director of Institutional Advancement while CDF completed a nationwide search for a Vice President candidate to fill that position permanently.

While serving dual roles, KC designed and provided leadership and staff with CDF’s first ever organization-wide flow chart that illustrates how data/information is received, stored and delivered through CDF’s current warehouse structure.  He further leveraged his combination of technical expertise, management experience, and rapport and relationships with his colleagues to conduct a thorough assessment to analyze needs, identify gaps, eliminate redundancies, improve efficiencies using RE/NXT and implement new processes to help maintain stability within the Advancement team throughout that period of transition and staff attrition.  This past summer, he called upon what he learned in that process to develop a custom training for current CDF national and regional office users of the RE/NXT to baseline their knowledge and create written and recorded material that could be used for onboarding of future staff.
