Priya Lakhani is a serial entrepreneur, innovator and educator who sits on the Prime Minister’s Council for Science and Technology and is a former member of the UK Government's Al Council. Following a successful career in the law she pivoted to the food sector and launched an FMCG business. Priya is currently the founder and CEO of CENTURY, which uses Al and data to create personalised learning tools for schools, and is a sought-after communicator and broadcaster for the global media on innovation, business, Al and education.
In 2008 Priya left her job as a libel barrister and set up the Masala Masala food brand. Its "one-for-one" business model, similar to Tom's ethical shoe brand, provided vaccinations and school meals in India and Africa. She is the author of two books, including Inadequate: the System Failing Our Teachers and Your Children, and is currently writing one on Al.
After taking several machine learning courses, Priya created education technology company CENTURY, with a mission to learn how every brain works. The platform provides personalised lessons for individuals while freeing teaching professionals from admin tasks such as marking and serves students and teachers in over one hundred countries. Priya is a co-founder of the Institute for Ethical Al and has held several significant advisory roles.
Priya has been a board member of the UK’s Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport and an advisor to previous governments on business and industrial strategy, as well advising government on Al regulation policy (including the Vallance Review of Al regulation 2023).
Priya has received many accolades, including Business Entrepreneur of the Year, The Spectator's National Economic Innovator of the Year. She is also a World Economic Forum Tech Pioneer and a recipient of the MIT SOLVE award. She has an honorary doctorate in Engineering from Coventry University and was made OBE in 2014.
