Mary H. Murtala is a nonprofit executive with more than twenty years of leadership and results-driven fundraising experience. Skilled at leading teams, creating and growing funding streams and developing systems, she has worked with select organizations including National Parks Conservation Association, The SEED Foundation, and University of Maryland, College Park.
Before joining Crazy Horse Memorial Foundation as Chief Development Officer, Mary was the Senior Managing Director of Development at National Parks Conservation Association. She was responsible for the management and fundraising operations of a $300MM comprehensive fundraising campaign and served on the department’s executive team. She worked directly with NPCA’s Philanthropy Committee and various six- and seven-figure prospects. Her focus was on strategy, analysis, and coordination of NPCA’s Development function, coaching and mentoring a team of thirty fundraising professionals.
Mary is a collaborative and responsive leader who adapts quickly to circumstances and is known for her ability to build effective fundraising programs. She is a Tulane University graduate and an alumna of both the New Strategies Program for Nonprofit Executives at Georgetown University’s McDonough School of Business and the Nonprofit Executive Leadership Program at Indiana University’s Lilly Family School of Philanthropy. She is passionate about issues related to social equity, including access to education and our public lands, and cultural awareness and understanding of all people.
