Failing 101: How to Fail Well and Thrive in the Workplace
Failure is a common aspect of life, but at the office, it transforms into a terrible beast, a taboo word only spoken in hushed tones behind closed doors. Mistakes mean money wasted, donor support lost, and loss of confidence in your abilities. Perfection seems like the only way forward. But is it? No! Through this session, we aim to dispel the fear behind failure and turn it into something positive. This will be accomplished by
1. Clearly defining both failure and mistakes
2. Providing guidance for how to approach situations in which a mistake, failure, or both take place, using real-life examples from the presenters, at the personal and organizational levels
3. Showing how to turn these situations into positive learning experiences
4. Including tips for building better workplaces that encourage employees to expand their experience and put failure to task to learn and grow.
We hope that this presentation will act as a step in changing the mindset surrounding failure and mistakes and contribute toward healthier workplaces by equipping attendees with helpful and usable strategies for navigating challenging situations in the future and influencing them, young and seasoned professionals alike, to model the behavior they want to see from their coworkers.
